High School News

Good evening parents!

I wanted to give you the most up to date information that I can give you on the ticket situation this week. We received our allotment from Johnson City today right before lunch. The size of their stadium will only allow for 168 total visitors. 104 of those will be in the bleachers (red wristbands) and 64 will be in the form of “reserved boxes” along the sidewalk and fence area (gold wristbands). The gold wristbands will be a fence line only seat and you are encouraged to bring a chair. We are offering 2 wristbands each to varsity football coaches, varsity football players, varsity cheer, varsity trainers, and the selected band members who will be going this week. If every single person takes their allotment of the wristbands we will only have 6 tickets left unaccounted for. These will be offered to our faculty and staff and then to our students if we have any left over. I would not expect we would have any left for the general public unless many of the above mentioned don’t take their allotment. The wristbands will only allow you the opportunity to buy a ticket at the gate at Johnson City. Without the wristband, they will not sell you a ticket at the gate. I know this isn’t what you want to hear but it is the reality of the situation.

Our AV Production crew is going to make the trip and be on the sideline and at the top of the pressbox providing you a live stream feed for the game if you cannot make it out. Here are the links to the volleyball game tomorrow and the football game on Friday.

I need to urge you to wear your masks at all athletic contests whether it is indoors or outdoors. We have received word of a district in the Central Texas area which had been reported to the UIL for their fans not wearing masks and they let them know if it were to happen again the school would be suspended for 2 games for that particular sport. We have not received such a notice but we honestly don’t even want it to get to that point. I totally understand you not wanting to wear your mask during the event. I can guarantee you none of our students or staff like wearing them all day either. If it comes to a point where our student athletes might lose the ability to play the game they work so hard for, I think it is a small thing to ask for us to wear our masks during the contest. Our district and the UIL have made it clear the expectations are we are wearing masks during these events. Please help us to avoid bringing any unwanted attention to our district or our sports programs by wearing your mask. If we end up getting a warning letter from the UIL, we will be considering limiting our attendance even further or just having no fans in the stands so our student athletes can continue their seasons.

I also need to make you aware of a decision regarding Homecoming festivities for next week. Due to COVID regulations, we have decided to cancel the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally which would normally take place on the Wednesday of Homecoming Week. This was definitely a difficult decision but we felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved while we continue to try and maintain the health and safety of not only our students but the public in general. We look forward to reinstating it bigger and better next year! We are working on an event for our homecoming nominees and their families for that Wednesday night which will also serve as a practice run for the halftime program on that Friday. Details will be forthcoming once we finalize all the homecoming nominees at the end of this week.

I know much of this is not pleasant news but it is something which I needed to share. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out and contact me. Email is the best method and if you would like for me to call you, just let me know.
