Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE 3/16/2020

March 16, 2020

BISD Families,

I hope you are enjoying your Spring Break! I want to give you an update on the Coronavirus as it impacts the Blanco Independent School
District. Currently, there are 730+ school districts that have elected to close school in an effort to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus. Blanco ISD has not made that decision just yet.

These are extremely unusual and challenging times and the safety of our students and staff is at the forefront of our decision making. This is a very fluid situation so we will monitor it throughout the week and continue our discussions. The intention is to share our decision by 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

With that being said, the possibility exists that BISD will close for an extended period of time.  Closing school is a very difficult decision due to the hardship it places on working families; however, please consider preparing in the event that we do close. If we close, we will provide meal service and some degree of instruction to our students. How that looks is yet to be determined as we are evaluating our resources and capacity. If we remain open, there are operational adjustments that will need to be made. We will communicate those modifications as decisions are made.

Due to the seriousness of this pandemic, I encourage you to continue washing your hands and practicing social distancing. This is unchartered territory. Please know that our goal is to be transparent while providing accurate and meaningful information. We appreciate your understanding, and we will get through this together! Please stay safe!

Respectfully,
Clay Rosenbaum
Superintendent of Schools, Blanco ISD
