Blanco ISD, A Model for Academic Achievement

I want to tell you about a proud moment that I had this week.

I was at a presentation by the Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, this week in Austin.  He discussed many areas of education but spent the majority of his time reviewing the implications of HB 3.

He began his presentation talking about Texas Student Performance.  He reviewed student outcomes and compared improvement from one year to the next.  Then he showed the slide below and talked about districts that should serve as a model for academic achievement.  He bragged about those schools and asked the audience to provide reasons why they are being so successful.

As you can see, we are listed first on this slide.  I did not get to hear the answers from the audience because a representative from TEA came and sat down next to me.  He wanted to know what we were doing to be so successful.

We spoke for a few minutes but my main message was that we have a great staff with high expectations for students.  Of course, I also talked about having great kids that respect teachers and have high expectations of themselves.
